NYC Beautiful Workweek After Today

08/19/24 9:50am ET

Good morning everyone. We were rocking and rolling in the Northeast last night with some very heavy thunderstorms and severe flooding across parts of New Jersey and Long Island. Unfortunately, that low pressure has nowhere to go until Hurricane Ernesto located off of Nova Scotia, pulls away; so we have one more day to deal with this, albeit a “CliffsNotes” version of yesterday.

Look for sunshine to help fire that atmosphere back up and low pressure sending 1 more spoke of energy around the ferris wheel and into warm muggy air. We should have a broken line of heavy storms developing later this afternoon in Vermont and New Hampshire, down into upstate New York & Connecticut, possibly brushing northwest New Jersey and Long Island.

We’ll also watch closely areas of coastal/near coastal Virginia, northeast North Carolina, and possibly parts of Maryland & Delaware for some stronger and a better organized line of storms. There may also be a narrow line of storms or scattered individual cells moving through northern Florida before fizzling out.

All of the storms today in the areas discussed, may contain damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail, torrential rain, and the possibility for isolated tornadoes. While we don’t have any severe thunderstorm watches at this time, we could see a few posted this afternoon and/or individual severe thunderstorm watches as isolated areas reach severe limits.

Look for warm and muggy conditions today after some AM fog. We’ll have the slight chance of some PM heavy showers & storms, but most of the action should be inland. Highs today in the 80-85 range.

WEATHER RADAR

September arrives tomorrow with steady northerlies and a mix of sun and clouds. We’ll body the temps a bit into the mid 70’s instead of the low 70’s, and this is due to some extra sunshine and no rain expected.

Full sunshine pays a visit on Wednesday with mid to upper 70’s. Thursday and Friday are also winners, with full sunshine and seasonable low 80’s, possibly a few mid 80 readings on Friday.

Saturday remains relatively comfortable with 80-85 degree temps, then heat and humidity return on Sunday with upper 80’s to near 90.
