September Weather Coming to New York City Tuesday
08/18/24 12:25pm ET
Good afternoon everyone. We have a lot going on as the Northeast continues its transition to more of a late summer/early fall pattern, with the first taste of it coming on Tuesday. Low pressure continues to slowly trudge to the east from the Great Lakes region and will drift through New York State Today.
This has already set off a round of very heavy rain and rumbles from New Jersey into Long Island, and now up into New England. Flood watches and warnings have been posted in regards, but we are not done yet as the area gets a brief breather. Just like yesterday, expect that low pressure system to interact with the very muggy conditions and sun working the atmosphere.
We’ll see very heavy afternoon thunderstorms popping up, and will likely see individual severe cells, as well as a few organized lines of severe weather throughout parts of Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey later this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds will be the primary risk, but we may also see some large hail, frequent lightning, more torrential rain, and the possibility for isolated tornadoes.
The next regions we are watch are the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, where we could also see a round of severe weather in the form of individual cells and broken lines. Areas such as Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, will most likely see some scattered severe weather this afternoon and evening as well. The same risks apply for these areas as they do up in the Northeast.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Late morning and early afternoon rain will give way to a mix of sun and clouds. It’ll be very muggy with highs in the mid to upper 70’s. Later on this afternoon and evening, look for scattered thunderstorms to develop, some of which may be severe.
WEATHER RADAR
We’ll do it again tomorrow with muggy conditions and low 80’s. Look for the chance of more scattered heavy showers and storms, some of which may be severe again.
Tuesday will be very cool for the season, with a stiff northerly breeze, a mix of sun and clouds, and low 70’s with the chance of a few scattered instability showers. Lows overnight could very well dip into the 50’s, especially away from the City.
Wednesday will also be relatively cool with mid 70’s and low humidity, then we are back near 80 on Thursday with low humidity continuing. Look for more of the same on Friday, then we should begin to warm back up with extra humidity by Sunday.
