NYC Heat Expected in Between Mild Spots
08/17/24 11:34am ET
Good late morning everyone. The Northeast is in a transition period as muggy conditions and showers & rumbles grace the region through Monday, then some very comfortable weather settles in for several days. While it may seem this is the end of summer for the area, we still have some heat to go; maybe even something that resembles a heatwave towards the end of the month before another opportunity for some much cooler air.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Ernest gave Bermuda a tough time, and while he missed the East Coast by a wide margin, we still have some fringe effects to deal with. Rough surf, rip currents, and very rough inlets up and down the East Coast are expected to last until late night tomorrow; possibly into Monday before settling down.
On the severe weather front, our severe storm risk shifts into the Ohio Valley, interior Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast over the next 48 hours. We’ll start off today with some scattered strong to severe storms derring the Ohio River Valley down through the Appalachians. We’ll also see heavy storms dot areas of western & central New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, on west into the Gulf States.
This is our cold front that’ll bring very comfortable weather to the Northeast, and some relief to the Southeast temporarily. While we won’t see widespread severe weather and long-ranging lines, some areas of storms will contain damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and a few isolated tornadoes.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Clouds are on their way in after some AM sunshine and showers are knocking on the door from New Jersey. Look for some PM showers and highs a muggy 75-80. We’ll have a better chance of showers and storms tomorrow with more muggy 75-80 degree temps. Tomorrow’s action could be on the heavier side, with scattered severe weather possible embedded in heavier showers and rumbles.
WEATHER RADAR
We’ll do it again on Monday with more showers and storms. Highs will be in the muggy low 80’s, then we cool off into the mid 70’s Tuesday with lower humidity. We’ll have the slight chance of a few popcorn showers with cooler air aloft and the sun creating come instability.
Wednesday is epic on the comfort scale, with sunshine, low humidity, and dry conditions in the mid to upper 70’s. Near 80 temps return on Thursday and Friday with comfortably warm conditions.
