NYC Late Summer/Early Fall Conditions on the Move
08/16/24 10:18am ET
Good morning everyone. The Northeast has a very warm to hot day ahead before Mother Nature shuts off the heat for a little while. Late summer and early fall air is on the move, and the pattern is about to shift in a big way. This weekend’s cold front will be the first of several to help tamper down temps, plus protect the Northeast from any hypothetical tropical activity over the next couple of weeks; including the current storm Hurricane Ernesto.
That cold front heading towards the Northeast, will help tough off heavy showers and storms throughout the Ohio River Valley, Central Pennsylvania, and Western/Central New York as it slowly trudges towards the coast. While we don’t have severe thunderstorm watches posted, look for isolated severe weather throughout the region. If severe weather becomes more widespread, watches will be needed.
Another area we are watching closely for severe weather, is the 4 corners of Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. As that cold front sweeps through the Northeast, it’ll stall along the Gulf States and begin to return as a warm front in the Midwest. Look for the chance of a cluster or clusters of heavy thunderstorms to develop in the region tonight and into the early morning hours. These could produce very large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Look for sunshine today mixed with some smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Highs will be a semi-humid upper 80’s to near 90.
WEATHER RADAR
Temps drop into the low 80’s tomorrow with the help of that approaching cold front. We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds with the chance of some late PM showers. Sunday we go mostly cloudy with upper 70’s to low 80’s. We’ll have a better chance of some showers and rumbles throughout the area.
The chance of showers and storms remain in the area into Monday, with muggy low 80’s. We’ll see a mix of sun & clouds on Tuesday and much cooler. Look for highs in the mid 70’s with the chance of a few PM popcorn showers. Wednesday wants to be a mid-September day in August, with sunshine, breezy conditions, and mid to upper 70’s.
