NYC BRIEF COOL SHOT HEADING DOWN
Good morning everyone. After a slightly warmer than expected Friday here in the NYC area, a cool shot is on its way into the region. We’ll have typical St. Patrick’s Day parade weather today after the light show from thunderstorms last night.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Some extra sun yesterday and lack of fog/mist, provided us with the ability to break 70 degrees in many areas away from immediate shore. With the seabreeze along the coast and a weakening frontal system moving in, it gave the atmosphere just enough of a nudge to create a thin but vigorous line of storms inland. While it gave us a great light show from a distance, we were quickly reminded that it is still winter and our ocean is still very cold. The area quickly settled back into the original forecast when storms rapidly fizzled out, giving us some scattered hefty showers and a few rumbles of thunder. Regardless, things got interesting for a couple of hours in the region.
REGIONAL RADAR
For today, we settle back into normal March, with sunny skies, near 50 temps, and breezy conditions for the parade. Tomorrow, we dip below average and into the mid 40’s as cooler air settles in for a few days.
On Monday, we’ll keep the slight threat of a rain or snow shower in the area, but it remains a non-story as whatever falls (if anything at all), will be light and will melt (if snow). Highs in the mid 40’s.
That slight chance of precipitation represents a reinforcing shot of cool air and it’ll help keep the area cooler than average for 1 more day with mid 40’s once again.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
On Wednesday, we begin to modify already and back towards average; highs in the upper 40’s to near 50. To round off the week, we’re back into the 50’s as another system begins to creep our way. As of now it’s looking weak and won’t have much precipitation with it, but it’ll help cool us off again for at least late next weekend.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
In the long range, we remain steady with typical March weather and no surprise snowstorms. However, there are signs spring is trying to break out across the Nation. First and foremost, while we remain “active”, there’s more space in between systems now. That means things are starting to slow down as the gears turn to Spring. Systems generally move faster in the winter and slowest in the summer, so this is an encouraging sign that we’re in the process of changing patterns.
Also, the Midwest and Southeast will begin to warm up and have longer periods of warmth in between the cool shots. Eventually, this will benefit us as many of these systems go north and west of us. The milder and warmer it is in the Midwest and Southeast, the milder it’ll be for us when that air is pumped our way.
If things go right, we could actually have a very nice first 1/3 of April. That remains to be seen though because we can’t look that far ahead system-wise, but the signs are gathering for a very seasonable start, which is a good thing.
Happy St. Patrick’s Weekend everyone!
