NYC BRIEF SNOW SHOT LIKELY ICY COLD THURSDAY COMING
Good morning everyone. Brutal cold air has left the bus station and on its way to make a stop in the New York City area and the entire Northeast. Before that happens though, we have to get through a system in which rain will turn into a brief shot of snow.
EASTERN SATELLITE
As of early this morning, we’re on the edge of some mid-layer to high altitude clouds, but that should pull away to give us a sunny and dry day. Temps will be on the slightly below normal side, but at least the winds will be light. Expect highs in the upper 20’s to low 30’s. Tonight, we don’t dip much as increasing clouds act as a blanket for the area and winds go east off the ocean; lows in the mid to upper 20’s.
REGIONAL RADAR
As stated yesterday, any early arriving moisture may start off as a few flakes, but they’ll be of no consequence as we rise into the low 40’s and everything turns to rain. It’s on the backside that’s the issue.
Overnight tomorrow, any leftover precip will quickly changeover to snow as temps plummet into the low 20’s. Expect this process to happen somewhere between 11pm and 2 am. Untreated roads and any wet surfaces will quickly freeze. allowing snow to accumulate if it lasts long enough.
For the moment and in our immediate area, it look as it things will last long enough to give us a coating to 2″ into early Wednesday morning. The 2″ mark I’m reserving if things get enhanced as everything departs and we get a very brief shot of moderate to heavy snow as arctic air settles in. As you go east towards Long Island, those amounts go a little lower and they should be looking at a coating to 1″ possible.
Wednesday’s highs are looking cold, with low to mid 20’s, but expect those highs to happen early as we drop fast as we approach sunset. The wind won’t help either, with winds increasing as the day goes on and we may see some 35+ mph gusts out of the WNW.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Wednesday night, we’re in the freezer as lows dip into 0-5 degree territory. Negative numbers are a likelihood N&W of the NYC area and a distinct possibility in areas of Long Island, especially colder spots like the Pine Barrens and parts of the Hamptons.
We don’t recover much for Thursday and highs will barely reach the 10-15 degree realm. Some areas may not reach 10 at all, but when it gets this cold, it’s hard to pinpoint until it’s unfolding. Just don’t be surprised if we don’t get out of the single digits in spots.
Overnight Thursday, we dip back (or remain) in the single digits, then we slowly modify things for Friday and into our weekend.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Highs Friday are looking to “rise’ into the 20-25 range, then maybe some upper 20’s to low 30’s on Saturday. The jury is still out on that one in terms of how quickly we modify.
Regardless, our next snow-hostile system begins to march its way towards the area and Sunday brings us to another transition-day as we rise into the upper 30’s to low 40’s at minimum. Then, we rinse and repeat with a rainy Monday possible, and cold air returning as everything passes.
