NYC Coastal Storm Impact Discussion

Good morning everyone. We continue to watch our developing coastal system well-offshore and parallel to the Mid-Atlantic. In the big scheme of things, nothing has changed aside from the increased chance our system retrogrades from the New England coast. However, low pressure is expected to considerably weaken during the process; which means all the retrograde really does is give us a better chance of some rainy/showery conditions.

As discussed prior, regardless of the actual track and outcome, we were expecting gusty winds, rough surf, enhanced tides, and the chance of some rain in the NYC area. As you go out east on Long Island, those winds will increase as well as the risk of rain. Check out the latest below…

SATELLITE

For today, rain slips to our south as everything congeals offshore. We’ll see some breaks in the clouds, with highs in the mid to upper 60’s. Winds will be gusty out of the NE 25-30mph. As you go further east, peaks guts could be 5-10mph stronger. Dry air wedges in tomorrow with low pressure well offshore and spooling up. We’ll have another gusty day with 65-70º temps. Wind profiles should be the same, as well as strong winds as you go east.

WEATHER RADAR

Clouds roll in overnight Thursday into Friday. We’ll have the slight chance of some gusty showers, with wind gusts increasing to 30-35mph. The chance of rain and strong winds increases, especially out at the Forks of Long Island; where gusts may approach the 50-55mph range.

Look for similar conditions on Saturday and part of Sunday as our coastal system retrogrades. The chance of rain will increase, but wind gusts should begin to subside into the breezy realm. Everything pulls away by Monday/Tuesday and 70-75º temps return for a pleasant start to the following workweek.
