NYC Complicated Thanksgiving Forecast
Good morning everyone. Clouds and strong winds continue to impact the Northeast & New England as low pressure pulls away very slowly. Sunshine will begin to return tomorrow, but strong winds persist before finally calming down tomorrow night & Monday. Our next chance of rain moves in ahead of our next system Monday night into Tuesday, and that will help reinforce chillier air before out next system heads in by Thursday.
That’ll set the stage for some overrunning snows for interior parts of New York & Pennsylvania before changing to rain. However, it looks as if rain changes back to snow as low pressure develops off of New England before scooting away. Cold enough air may be available to change cold rain to a mix of rain and snow all the way to the coast before departing some time Friday or Saturday.
This will cause travel headaches in major city airports up and down the East Coast for the holiday weekend since our storm system will stretch from Maine down to the Carolinas and Florida. While this isn’t an overtly powerful system, it will be a moisture-laden one, with much needed rains falling in drought stricken areas. As far as the airports are concerned, I don’t see any closures ahead, but we could see some delays and/or cancelled flights Thursday & Friday.
Currently for the Southeast, cold air remains stubborn, with frost advisories posted across areas of southeast Georgia and northeast Florida for overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. Look for temperatures to dip to the near-freezing realm, possibly damaging late-season crops and plants with heavy frost.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Look for a mix of clouds & sun today, and it’ll be on the windy side with wind gusts to near 40mph possible. Highs will be near 50 at best. We’ll have low 50’s tomorrow with more wind and some extra sunshine. Winds should begin to diminish tomorrow night.
WEATHER RADAR
Monday is the best day of the week, with light winds, sunshine, and mid 50’s for highs. Clouds increase later in the venting, and we’ll have some rain likely overnight Monday into Tuesday late morning. Highs Tuesday in the mid to upper 50’s before slowly creeping down.
Sunshine returns on Wednesday with upper 40’s to near 50 for highs, then clouds increase Thursday with some cold rain expected in the afternoon. Rain could mix with snow on Friday as temperatures hover in the upper 30’s to near 40, then dropping as that storm departs.
