NYC Winter Arrives Early
Good morning everyone. Several weeks ago during a long range outlook, we discussed the possibility of very cold air arriving near or during the weekend of November 30th across parts of the Midwest, Central States, Northeast, and New England. Now that the pieces are coming together, we also see a continuation of reinforcing shots of cold air and possibly very cold air to start off your December.
In some cases, we could see low temperatures plunging to near or below zero for states such as North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and possibly Iowa to start next month. Meanwhile, it looks as if we turn on the Lake Effect snow machine across parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio with the exit of our late week system. Ahead of that system, we could also see some high elevation snows and/or freezing rain Thursday and Friday.
This is all part of a much colder pattern brewing that’ll give large areas of real estate temperatures typically reserved for late December through late January. Even across areas of coastal North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, where deep-winter temperatures typically range in the 50-55 degree realm, could see high temperatures barely reaching the 40’s come the first week of December.
Overall, the stage is set for an unseasonably cold start to the season from the Midwest, across the Northeast & New England, then down along the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. That being said, we cannot discuss snow prospects and systems to take advantage of that cold air yet. Typically when we see a cold blast on this level, the air is usually fairly dry aside from heavy Lake Effect snows when the wind profile sets up perfectly.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Look for a mix of sun & clouds today with windy conditions sticking around. Winds may gust to 30-35mph with highs in the near 50 range, but a chillier feel due to the wind.
WEATHER RADAR
Wind settles down overnight tonight and tomorrow continues to look like the best day of the week. We’ll have sunshine and highs in the low to mid 50’s. Mid 50’s continue on Tuesday, but we’ll have clouds and some showers around.
Clouds decrease on Wednesday with near 50 degree temps, then increase again overnight with our next system. Look for a mostly cloudy day on Thursday with showers and more near 50 temps, then a cold rain develops overnight into Friday for a raw day in the 40’s.
Don’t rule out a departing wet flake or two mixed in with the rain.
Saturday and Sunday clear out, but we are expecting blustery conditions in the 40-45 range, which will put us below average temperature-wise.
