NYC Thanksgiving Forecast A Real Turkey

11/26/24 9:23am

Good morning everyone. We have some real nasty and cold weather shaping up for the Northeast, with one system helping the next in order to make that forecast come true. Our first system today will be our reinforcing cool air mass as rain heads up the coast ahead of our front. Sunshine returns tomorrow for a short stint, then clouds increase again as our next system makes its way in.

This one will make travel difficult up and down the East Coast during the holiday weekend, with rainy and raw conditions expected across a wide area of the Northeast and New England on Thursday. Cold rain will fall with 40 degree temps, and some interior snows for higher elevations. However, what’s behind it is the real kicker.

Onshore winds across the Great Lakes will result in some heavy lake effect snows across parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York as cold winds blow across the relatively warmer lakes Friday through Monday. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch during this time frame for 6 or more inches of snow across the watch areas. As we get closer and see exactly where the heavy bands of snow set up, expect those watches to turn into warnings.

Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –

Am clouds and rain rule the roost as we hover in the mid 50’s. Look for some PM partial clearing and we may hit 60 degrees if we get enough sun. Expect AM sun tomorrow, then PM increasing clouds and highs in the upper 40’s to near 50.

WEATHER RADAR

Thursday is a nasty day, with mid to upper 40’s and soaking rains. Behind it, winds increase with decreasing clouds Friday and highs in the mid 40’s.

Saturday is sunny, breezy, and chilly, with highs barely reaching 40 degrees, if that. Winds begin to settle down on Sunday with 35-40 degree temps for a true winter feel. Lows both Saturday and Sunday are in the mid to upper 20’s, with low 20’s likely away from NYC.
