NYC Thanksgiving Weekend Cold Air Invasion

11/27/25 10:42am EST

Good morning everyone. We have a wide array of weather across the Northeast, New England, and Southeast as a fairly sizable storm takes shape up and down the East Coast. For the Northeast and New England, we’ll see some onset snows in the interior, changing to rain, then back to snow with some heavy accumulations of snow in spots. For interior parts of Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire, 6-12″ of snow is possible. Across parts of the Catskills in New York and Pennsylvania, 5-10″+ of snow is likely.

We’ll also see some heavy “Lake Effect” snows behind our system as cold winds blow across the relatively warm lakes. Most of this action will take place along the east and southeast lake shorelines of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Those cold winds will also help usher in unseasonably cold air for this time of year, with high temperatures in the 20’s and 30’s; which is typical for January.

The cold front connected to our low pressure system will also cause problems as it transits the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. A narrow line of heavy showers and thunderstorms is expected to form across parts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. We could also see heavy showers and thunderstorms across the panhandle of Florida and northern Florida itself.

These thunderstorms will be brief in nature, but could pack a big punch with some storms reaching severe limits. Look for the risk of damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. The time window on this action looks to be late tomorrow morning through tomorrow evening from west to east.
