NYC Cooler Weather Prevails

10/24/24 9:20am ET

Good morning everyone. As expected and forecasted, our departing tropical energy in the form of a coastal storm, is heading well out to sea, but interacting with a front sweeping through the Northeast. This is giving us some gusty winds, clouds, and drizzle along coastal sections. However, this system is moving out to sea at a fairly good clip, and clearing today will be fast.

Cooler weather filters in behind it as we sink into the 60’s, then a bigger drop into the 50’s for Sunday and Monday. We could also see some heavy frost overnight Sunday into Monday for interior sections of the Northeast, especially in higher elevations and valleys.

We also continue to watch an onshore flow taking place across eastern shores of Florida, where we still have a few tropical showers and rumbles grazing the coast. Rough seas and beach erosion risk have faded, but we still have some enhanced tides causing minor coastal flooding.

The big story today is the severe weather risk out in the Midwest across parts of Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. That cold front which is expected to drop temperatures on Sunday in the Northeast, is slowly making its way across the Midwest at the moment. As it bumps into warmer and more humid area, it’ll create enough convection later this afternoon and evening to form clusters and lines of heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Look for these clusters and lines to contain storms that may reach severe limits. The potential is there for locally damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of an isolated tornado. We could also see this action spread into Illinois and Wisconsin during the overnight hours.

Clouds and drizzle will give way to sunshine today. It’ll be on the breezy side today, with northerly winds gusting up to 25mph. Things settle down tomorrow, with highs in the mid 60’s and comfortable.

WEATHER RADAR

The same goes for Saturday as we hang out in the mid 60’s, then that front sweeps by with no action because it’ll be too dry. Highs Sunday will be tin the 55-60 with the steady breeze.

storm free

50’s hold on for Monday with sunshine, then we slowly modify back into the 60’s on Tuesday. Mild air wants to push back, and we could see some 70’s here by Wednesday.
