NYC DEEP SUMMER RETREATS – Good morning everyone. As stated two days ago, I wanted to wait and see what the atmosphere looks like after yesterday’s system passed, before I looked into the crystal ball for the long range. Now that everything has revealed itself, I see a tough road ahead for those who like the dog days of August.
First off, we struggle to clear out today, with low clouds eventually giving way to partial clearing. Highs today will be 75-80, but closer to those mid 70’s of the sun needs extra time to come out. Tomorrow through Friday, we return to sunny skies and seasonable temps (low 80’s), but the mugginess that is typical of early to mid August is nowhere to be found.
Over the weekend, we’re looking to start it off on a cloudy and cool note, with a system that may somewhat mirror what we had yesterday, including the soaking rain and possible storms. Things could be slow to clear out, giving us some lingering storms Sunday and Monday as we return to the 80° mark.
In the long range, I think we do achieve some warmer and more humid temps for a 2-4 day block mid-week next week, but it looks to be front related and short lived. I said last week that NYC might see 90° one more time. If this is the case, mid-week next week could come very close for a day or two. After that, it looks to return to normal/below normal, putting us in “danger” of ending summer on a below average, rainy, and cool note.
