NYC Deep Winter Pattern Leans Coastal Storm
12/1/24 3:07pm EST
Good afternoon everyone. Deep mid-winter-like cold has locked itself into the majority of the Upper Midwest, Central States, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast courtesy of our last system. As another reinforcing shot of very cold air looms ahead for Wednesday and Thursday from west to east, we begin watching what’s behind that system; and all signs point to some wintry weather for someone.
Whether it comes to fruition or not, the long range models want to put a coastal or near coastal storm somewhere along the East Coast some time early next week (Week of Dec. 9th). For those who understand how to read these models, it doesn’t mean that something is 100% in the cards. However, if you watch the trends, these models keep kicking a sizable storm down the road with each run. This means that while not definite, the pattern is friendly for it if the right pieces come together.
Currently and actually, very cold air has spilled into Southeast is a deep enough manner, that we have frost advisories and freeze watches/warnings across parts of Georgia and Florida. This time, freeze warnings stretch a little further south compared to last night, with sub freezing temperatures expected as south as Ocala, FL tonight; possibly even further.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast, and we will keep a close eye on next week –
SATELLITE
Look for sunshine and wind to close out the rest of the day, and we are as high as we go with temps in the mid to upper 30’s.
WEATHER RADAR
Sunshine remains tomorrow and winds slack a bit with highs in the upper 30’s to near 40. Same goes for Tuesday and Wednesday, but we have increasing clouds Wednesday with the next system arriving overnight.
Look for a cold rain overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning, then mid 40 degree temps Thursday will drop through the 30’s as cold air returns. Friday is looking blustery and cold, with highs 35-40 at best. This cold air Friday through the weekend, will help set the stage IF the pieces of our next system come together perfectly.
