NYC Cool Cold Air Locked Into Area
12/2/24 9:01am EST
Good morning everyone. Cold air remains locked into the Northeast with another reinforcing blast of cold air set to come through on Thursday. This one will be a big wind-maker, with blustery conditions and scattered showers & light snow behind it. We’ll keep the chilly to cold air around through the weekend, and that may help set the stage for some onset freezing rain and/or snow some time between Monday & Tuesday with our next storm system.
Elsewhere, unseasonably cold air has reached all the way down into the Southeast and remains very stubborn. Heavy frost and freeze conditions are expected once again tonight into early tomorrow morning throughout parts of Georgia and Florida. The main focus of sub-freezing temperatures looks to be south-central and Georgia and parts of north Florida. Temperatures will likely modify Friday, then a much milder weekend expected.
Meanwhile, we have ourselves some much-needed rain developing across the southernmost region of Texas as some Gulf of Mexico energy comes ashore. Look for scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms moving across the area, then eventually things lift northward and to the northeast. Over the course of the next couple of days, we’ll have heavy showers and thunderstorms develop in cities such as Houston and Dallas, then cross over into Louisiana and Mississippi as that energy gets pushed back towards the Gulf Coast.
Tomorrow and Wednesday, there could be an isolated severe weather component to this. Look for the risk of locally damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. We could also see the risk of waterspouts increase along coastal sections.
Here is your NYC Metro area forecast –
SATELLITE
Sunshine and chilly conditions continue today, but with lighter winds. Look for highs in the upper 30’s. We’ll have near 40 degree temperatures tomorrow with more sunshine.
WEATHER RADAR
Clouds increase later on Wednesday, but not before some morning sun and highs near 40 again. Mid 40’s pay a visit ahead of our next system, then temps drop over the course of the day on Thursday as blustery winds develop. We’ll have some scattered showers, but most of the action looks to be inland.
Friday is looking cold and windy with highs in the mid 30’s at best.
A weak disturbance will swing by later on Saturday with the chance of a few scattered flurries from afternoon, onward. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to near 40. Sunday looks chilly with a steady breeze, sunshine, and highs near 40.
