NYC Cold Blustery Thursday With Flurries Possible

Good afternoon everyone. Chilly to cold air remains locked in the Northeast and New England, with a reinforcing dome of cold air ready to enter the picture over the course of the next few days.

A powerful cold low pressure system is expected to transit just north of the Great Lakes region in Canada, then flirt with upper New England. With it, we are expecting powerful winds in excess of 40-50mph in spots, plus some rain and snow ahead of it and behind it.

Gale warnings and watches are posted for the waters of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts for winds possibly gusting 45 to 50mph across near-shore areas tomorrow evening through Friday. Meanwhile, we will see another round of heavy Lake Effect snows across east and southeast facing lake shores of New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. We’ll also see a similar setup for Michigan as well with heavy Lake Effect snows expected.

The rest of the Northeast and New England, possibly including coastal sections of New York and New Jersey, are not out of the woods either as far as snow. Look for rain changing to snow squalls for much of interior parts of the Northeast and New England. We could also see showers turn into flurries and some brief snow squalls across the NYC Metro area on Thursday.
