NYC Nasty Weather Arrives Tonight
Good morning everyone. We have several features going on across a wide area that’ll give us the full experience ranging from deep winter to early spring.
Powerful low pressure moving north of the Great Lakes and eventually dropping into New England, is bringing heavy snows across areas of Michigan, as well as north-central parts of Indiana. This system is responsible for the coldest air of the season set to inflict the Upper Midwest, Central States, Northeast, New England, and the Southeast.
Ahead of it, we’ll watch heavy snows row across parts of New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Maine; where 6-12″ of snow is expected across a wide swath, then heavy lake effect snows behind it for addition accumulation. In areas of West Virginia and westernmost Maryland, we have blizzard warnings posted for tonight and tomorrow.
While 5-10″ of snow is expected in this area, it’ll be the driving winds, blowing & drifting snow, low visibility, and frigid wind chills that’ll drive the blizzard warning criteria. We could also see these warnings extended northward into Pennsylvania, but even if they’re not, near-blizzard conditions are possible along the PA side of the Maryland border.
For a more springtime experience, we have heavy showers and thunderstorms developing across east/northeast Texas, parts of Arkansas, and Louisiana. They won’t make it much further north and should begin to sink back towards the Gulf Coast, but by doing so, we could see some stronger thunderstorms as they reach the Texas and Louisiana coast. Look for the possibility of locally strong winds, frequent lighting, hail, and torrential rain later tonight and tomorrow.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Clouds increase today with chilly conditions in the near 40 degree range. Rain will develop overnight and mix with snow at times. Temperatures remain steady in the upper 30’s to near 40, so no accumulation is expected.
WEATHER RADAR
Tomorrow is simply a nasty day, with mostly cloudy skies, falling temps, and any leftover rain changing to scattered snow flurries and squalls. Highs near 40 will happen early, and we should be in the low 30’s by evening. Winds may gust at 40+ mph at times. Friday is blustery and cold with mid 30’s as highs at best.
Winds settle down a bit on Saturday, but we remain breezy with mid to upper 30’s. On Sunday, near 40 degree temps are likely with calmer winds and dry conditions.
