NYC Doom Gloom Return January Pattern Weak Medium Range

NYC Doom Gloom Return January Pattern Weak Medium Range

Good morning everyone. Clouds have returned and although we are mild, this won’t be an enjoyable period as out system gets hung up and will be slow to clear. In other news, our medium-range pattern is shaping up to be rather patchwork, with systems losing steam after the Rockies, and getting more seasonable air here in unconventional ways. This will equate to a temporarily weak pattern, resulting in weaker systems and very cold air hard to find/work with.

A fog and cloud sandwich, with sunshine in the middle, will not happen today as clouds have outpaced the fog. Once that fog does burn off, expect cloudy skies and the chance of rain. Right now we have a soaking rain in most of PA, and we’ll see what holds together when it gets here. Highs today will be in the low to mid 50’s.

Clouds and rain continue overnight, with temps staying steady. We’ll have on and off rain tomorrow, with muggy conditions and highs in the 60-65 realm.

WEATHER RADAR

Unfortunately we do not clear this system out completely for Thursday and Friday. That’ll “save” us from any coastal low prospect (even weak ones) for Saturday, but what it will do is keep clouds and widely scattered showers in the area both days. Expect highs in the low 50’s Thursday, then low to mid 40’s Friday.

For Saturday, we’ll be watching to see if some energy scoots by later in the day and overnight. This was the energy that hypothetically would have hooked up with a wave of low pressure in the Southeast to give us a chance of some snow or rain. With that not happening and trying to work on its own, we could still see the chance of some light snow, light rain, or light snow changing to light rain. However, it could also fizzle out and it moves through without anyone noticing. For the moment, I’m going to hold off on the weekend forecast to see what all of these weak pieces of the puzzle do.
