NYC Mild Conditions Continue Winter Returns Late Week
Good afternoon everyone and Happy New Year! We bring the New Year in on a mild note, but by the end of the week, we are back to seasonably cold conditions. We’re also watching some prospects here and there, and while the first one continues to show SOME viability, it looks to be on the weaker side of things as opposed to a powerful snowmaker.
SATELLITE
Look for sunshine and mild conditions today and tomorrow, with highs in the 50-55 range. Tuesday might be a bit warmer, but the marine layer will kick in and we should have some morning fog. In between the fog lifting and clouds increasing, what little sunshine if any, will dictate how our day goes. Right now I’m calling for 55-60, but we could be a notch lower if the fog lifts and there’s no sun to be had.
WEATHER RADAR
Wednesday is the mildest of the period, but it’s also the wettest. Expect a mild southerly flow, humid conditions, and on & off rain. Highs should be in the 60-65 range, cooler along the immediate shore.
We’ll dry out Thursday afternoon, but clouds will linger for a bit. We’ll also be noticeably cooler with highs in the low to mid 40’s. Winter returns on Friday with seasonably cold temps in the 35-40 realm.
For Friday night into late Saturday, we’ll be watching to see if Wednesday’s system is able to create a wave in the Southeast as that energy stalls out from passing through the entire region down there. If that wave does form and high pressure is able to keep it from exiting, we could see low pressure ride up near or off the coast, giving us light to moderate precip. As of now, things look to be on the weaker side (if it happens at all), which means it won’t be able to pull down enough colder air from high pressure up north. With only the cold air it has to work with, we could see a mix changing to rain and back to snow as it pulls away.
There’s a lot of “IF’s” here, but it’s something I’ve been watching before any of the models had it on display. Regardless if this happens or not, we are entering a more seasonably average period winter-wise.
