NYC Enjoys Quiet Mild Weather For Now

Good morning everyone and happy Friday! We’ve begun our quiet and mild period even though New Year’s Eve tomorrow is on the rainy side. It’s still better than biting cold and we’ll take it for a 6 day stretch, but things are about to change and return back towards a normal January.

For now, we enjoy 50-55 degree temps today through Monday. Today we’ll have some sunshine and low to mid 50’s, then we begin to cloud up overnight.

We’ll hold off on the rain tomorrow till early afternoon, then expect on and off showers for the rest of the day and overnight. We could get into a steadier period of rain, but we’ll have to watch the radar for that. We’ll have highs again in the 50-55 range, holding steady overnight.

WEATHER RADAR

Clouds depart on Sunday after the slight chance of some AM showers, then we’ll have a glorious New Year’s Day with more 50-55 degree temps.

Mid 50’s stick around for Monday, then we head into the 55 to near 60 range for Tuesday under increasing clouds late.

Our next weather-maker after tomorrow will be late Tuesday night into Wednesday, and this one will have to be watched closely. Initially, our system’s path will put us into the warm sector as low pressure heads into the Great Lakes (again). Depending on the precip and cloud cover, we could see 60-65 degree temps on Wednesday with humid conditions and on & off rain.

After the front passes, colder air lags and we should have 1 more mild one on Thursday with decreasing clouds. However, we’ll be watching to see if moisture gets hung up along the Gulf/SE Coast as strong high pressure moves across lower Canada and into the Maritime. It’ll be a race to the finish line to see if high pressure traps the energy along the SE coast and forces it up north, or the energy is able to scoot away before high pressure arrives.

We’ll watch and see which scenario plays out, but for now it’s too soon. Realistically, that would put us at a system behind a system behind a system, and you can’t accurately predict something like that. What we do know is that we trend colder and more active 7 days and beyond.
