NYC EVENING THUNDERSTORM CHANCE PLUS WEEKEND SPLIT
Good morning everyone. After a cloudy start today, we have another nice one ahead. However, some changes are in store and it starts this evening. Looking down the road a bit, our Mother’s Day weekend continues to look iffy, and I’ll break it all down for you.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Some low to mid-level clouds snuck in late afternoon yesterday, and they’ve been with us since. They will slide out at some point, making way for some sun. This will help hamper the local area from jumping into the 80’s, but we should still see a very pleasant day in the low to mid 70’s. If the sun comes out a little earlier, maybe we’ll see some upper 70 hits in the usual spots, such as downtown Brooklyn and central Queens. (cooler at the shore)
Our cold front arrives this evening, possibly touching off some showers and/or thunderstorms. IF a line forms and the energy doesn’t slide to our north and east, they could survive the trip with the north to south direction of this front. We’ll have to wait and see what develops, but the potential is there for some locally heavy action in the from of a thin line.
REGIONAL RADAR
We hold true with the clearing tomorrow and some sun will return. However, a northerly flow behind the front will keep things feeling cool, and we should see a dry mid to upper 60’s.
The gloom returns Thursday, but the pattern is moving a little faster this time around compared to last week. Expect mostly cloudy skies and the slight chance of a shower at any time, but about 10 degrees below average and in the low 60’s.
Overnight, the warm front arrives with a nice batch of rain and that should be with us until mid to late morning Friday. We’ll sit in between the precipitation for part of the day Friday, giving us a small dry window of about 4-6 hours. Then, the cold front will arrive with the chance of some more rain by mid to late afternoon. Highs will be a humid near 70.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
For your Mother’s Day Weekend, Saturday continues to look like the best day of the weekend and Sunday continues to look iffy. Dry weather behind Friday’s system will give us sun and clouds Saturday, highs in the mid to upper 60’s. If we get some extra sun, a few near or low 70 temps could pop.
On Sunday, a piece-meal system approaches the area, bringing clouds with it. As of now, I think we could hold off on any big rain, but we will have more clouds than sun, a chance of a shower at any time, especially late afternoon onward, and we’ll be slightly below average in the mid to upper 60’s.
I don’t think there will be any miracles on Sunday, but there could be some changes in either direction, so stay tuned.
