NYC MOTHERS DAY WEATHER ISSUES REMAIN

Good morning everyone. Our slow moving pattern continues onward in the NYC area, making forecasting very difficult, especially anything long range. However, we are moving along and breaking everything down, day to day, even hour by hour if need be.

EASTERN SATELLITE

For today, stubborn clouds and morning sprinkles have spread over the area temporarily. In some areas, the sun is already starting to peek through. Overall, we should be fairly comfortable by late morning/early afternoon, but on the seasonably cool side of things. Highs today in the mid 60’s, upper 60’s if we can squeeze out some extra sun.

Tomorrow I think we remain dry as we await that approaching warm front; but any decreasing clouds we had today, will be met with lowering and thickening clouds throughout the day tomorrow. We’ll be on the cool side of this airmass and go full maritime for a raw and cool day. Expect steady easterlies and upper 50’s to near 60 in most areas; cooler at the immediate shore.

Tomorrow night, that warm front begins it’s approach, touching off some showers, especially closer towards early morning Friday before sunrise. We’ll get that warm front past the area and I don’t think Friday is looking too bad as far as avoiding a full washout.

The southerly flow takes over on Friday as we await our cold front. Clouds will hinder how warm we get, but upper 60’s to low 70’s and humid is a pretty good bet at this time. As with any day this time of year, how much sunshine (if any) we get, will dictate how mild we go. Look for the threat of afternoon showers and storms at any time, but nothing organized until the front gets closer. This means we could have a 4-8 hour window of fairly dry conditions between the warm front precipitation departing and the cold front approaching.

That cold from clears on out Friday night, paving the way for a seasonable spring Saturday. At a minimum, we’ll have a few morning clouds and PM sun. A brief WNW flow will keep things dry and we should see 70-75 degree temps, then everything goes downhill Saturday night.

Another system will approach from our west on Sunday as maritime air fights back. Along the front draped to our southwest, a wave of low pressure will form and scoot by. Timing will be key as far as when we see some steady rain. As of now, I’m calling for a cool and cloudy day, highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s (if we’re lucky). We’ll have the chance for a shower or spotty drizzle at any time throughout the day, then at some point between 2pm – 8pm, the steadier rain moves in. We still have a ways to go on this and adjustments will be needed, but overall do not expect a nice day.
