SURPRISE SUNNY NYC START TODAY
Good morning everyone. For those up and out already, we have a sunny start this morning as the cloud cover is slightly delayed. Unfortunately, the early sun won’t do much temp-wise due to the maritime flow, but we have to take the breaks where we can get them. A large, stretched-out system arrives overnight and tomorrow, then we’ll be watching that other one for Mother’s Day.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Our sunny start is a bonus today, but later on, mostly sunny skies will give way to more clouds than sun, An easterly flow will keep the cool air locked in, so look for highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.
Our system to the west will be weakening rapidly even though it’s bringing severe weather out there. Most of the energy will be going north of us and well south, plus the warm front is looking weak. Expect a slight chance of showers overnight with that warm front, then we’ll watch and see what the cold front does tomorrow.
We should have a fairly sizable window of cloudy but dry conditions tomorrow. We could have a shower at any time tomorrow, but the majority of the energy holds off until late afternoon. Even then, the action may be scattered in nature. Regardless, we’ll keep the threat of some afternoon rumbles and it’ll be mild and humid; highs in the 70-75 realm. (cooler at the shore)
REGIONAL RADAR
Saturday continues to look like the best day of the weekend, with clouds and sun, a cool northwesterly flow, and highs a comfortable 65-70. Lower and thicker clouds will begin to creep in Saturday night as our next piece-meal system begins to drift our way.
For Mother’s Day, the timing of precipitation continues to be in question. It won’t be sunny and it won’t be warm, but we could eek out a dry window between the slight chance of a morning shower and evening rain. We’ll still be stuck in the upper 50 to low 60 (maybe) realm, but maybe we can pull off a mostly dry one for Sunday. Even so, plan your outdoor activities for Saturday if you can and hold off on Sunday.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
In the long range, next week starts off gloomy, then we wait to see if Sunday/Monday’s system pulls away in a timely fashion. It could get cut off for a few days and stick around, or it could keep moving and give us a decent Tuesday/Wednesday.
Looking back to last year and previous years, we were in the same rut forecast-wise, where we had to break it down almost day to day until late May due to an active, yet slow moving pattern.
