NYC Fall Invasion Set Late Week
Good morning everyone. It’s good to be back and I’d like to thank Joe Cioffi for covering the forecasts while I was out from work. Him and I discussed a lot of things along the way, and he did a great job covering the essence of those conversations. The first one, was a shot at some more 80’s in early October. The second, a cool blast coming in close on those 80’s heels. Both seem to be working out nicely, and only one question remains now; how cool do we go?
SATELLITE
For today, sunny skies rules the roost and a steady northerly flow will keep things comfortable. We’ll have highs in the mid to upper 70’s, but it may feel cooler at times with that steady breeze. Overnight, we’ll have a cool touch to the air as we drop into the 50’s, then settle into more seasonal air tomorrow with the help of a maritime flow. Highs tomorrow in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.
Average highs this time of year are around 70, so that’ll give you an idea of how warm we’ve been and what we need to do to get back to Earth temp-wise.
REGIONAL RADAR
Another round of 80’s are up in the batters box, but we have to get there first. Winds swing around to a SSW direction on Tuesday with clouds and sun representing that warm push. Expect mid to upper 70’s on Tuesday, sunshine dependent.
On Wednesday, the warm air pushes fully into the NYC area. Look for mid 80’s and more humid conditions. The fronts have been weak during these airmass changes, so if you’re expecting a blockbuster line of storms coming through to end this, you may be disappointed. We’ll have a slight chance of showers overnight, then that front will linger in piece-meal fashion for Thursday.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Thursday could be our first taste of cooler air depending on where that front hangs up, but it’ll be seasonable at its coolest I think. For now, we’ll call for more clouds than sun, a slight chance of showers, and upper 60’s to low 70’s.
Full sunshine should return on Friday, and a northerly breeze will push us down into the 65-70 range. Meanwhile, the core of the cool air heads in for the weekend. Some of the models right now are calling for 50’s on Saturday, but I’m going a little bit more conservative at this moment and taking the early October sun into account. Unless I see any big changes, I’m holding onto 60-65 for both Saturday and Sunday; with Sunday being the warmer of the two as the air modifies.
Overnight lows during the weekend could drop into the 40’s in spots, and areas upstate could see their first frost.
