NYC FLASH FLOOD WATCHES POSTED PROLONGED AUTUMN PUSH COMING
Good morning everyone. We have a lot going on here in New York City as well as the Southeast. Hurricane Michael absolutely devastated parts of the Florida Panhandle coastline, then did some widespread damage inland as it took some time for him to weaken. Meanwhile, our delayed fall push has finally arrived and looks as if this is it for the very warm and muggy weather.
EASTERN SATELLITE
As promised, we have heavy rain and rumbles of thunder heading our way as Michael interacts with an approaching cold front. He’ll help enhance that front as remnants slide just south of us. Regardless, we have flooding rain heading our way, especially in areas with poor drainage. Expect tropical skies today, sun and fast-moving low clouds, muggy conditions, and highs 75-80. We should start seeing some of that rain and thunder within a few hours, then it’ll become more steady as the day wears on and into the evening.
REGIONAL RADAR
Heavy rain continues tonight and into tomorrow morning, then we’ll have clearing skies and a windy day. Look for northerly winds 10-20mph, gusting to 35+. This has nothing to do with Michael directly, but more of an interaction with high pressure moving in and the tight pressure gradient. Highs will drop through the 60’s tomorrow, then lows getting down into the mid to upper 40’s tomorrow night in the NYC area. Areas outside of NYC could see 30’s.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
For your weekend, we could see a popcorn shower, especially inland as the sun interacts with very cold air aloft and a weak disturbance slipping by. Look for a thin veil of clouds creeping in Saturday, with highs 55-60. We modify slightly on Sunday and it’ll be the nicer of the two days; sunny with highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.
Seasonal to slightly below normal air sticks around for next week. Look for low to mid 60’s and the chance of a shower as a reinforcing shot of cool nears for Monday. We’ll have sun and clouds for Tuesday, with highs 55-60, then we have yet another shot of showers mid week as another reinforcing shot of cool air heads in, highs 55-60.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

For your long range, we’ll continue to have these fast moving, reinforcing shots of seasonal to slightly below normal air. Depending on the timing of these fronts, we could squeeze out one mild day here and there, but everything is moving too fast now to get prolonged warmth.
Essentially, fall is here to stay and things will begin drying out humidity-wise. As tragic and destructive tropical systems can be, they also play an important role in terms of getting things back on track when patterns become stale or even thrown off course by other tropical systems like what the Pacific systems did to us.
