NYC Forecast Tweak With Same Outcome

Good morning everyone. By late afternoon/yesterday evening, things started looking a colder for our onset of precip in parts of the NYC area. Since precip was going to hold off until after or the very end of the rush hour commute, I wanted to see how things looks this morning before I tweaked the forecast. Things continue to look slightly colder, and that means we’ll make some adjustment in regards. In the end though, this is an inconsequential system for NYC, and changes are very minor.

As of around 7am this morning, precipitation is about 2-3 hours away and in the form of all snow in central PA. Yesterday, we had called for a cold rain, possibly starting as a wintry mix in the NYC area. Instead of wintry mix, we’re going to change that to possibly starting as some wet snow before mixing with and changing to rain. The best chance to see this is in Staten Island, Manhattan, the Bronx, downtown Brooklyn, and the N Shore of Queens.

If it does start as some wet snow, we could see a coating on colder surfaces, such as cars, tree branches, and obviously the snow that’s still around. Other than that, we’re mixing fairly quickly and it’ll be all rain for the commute home. That’s the change essentially for NYC , and we remain on track for a nice week otherwise.

Areas N&W of the NYC, we’re going to bump up the coating to 2″ forecast, to 1-3″ possible. This is all due to the small system itself being slightly more vigorous.

F5 WEATHER RADARS

Aside from a popcorn shower possible tomorrow, this thing is long gone and we’ll enjoy mostly sunny skies for most of the day. Highs tomorrow in the low 40’s.

Wednesday now looks like the “mildest” day of the week, with sunshine and highs 45-50 in most spots. Best chance to see 50 will be downtown Brooklyn, central Queens, and near the north shore of Nassau County.

Our front moves through a little quicker, so we cool off on Thursday. Sunshine remains, and we’ll see highs in the low to mid 40’s. Friday is chilly before we bounce back a bit this weekend, with highs in the upper 30’s.

There is the potential for some rain this weekend, but we’ll save that forecast for mid-week.
