NYC FRIDAY SEVERE THREAT DIMINISHED HEAVY STORMS OVERNIGHT
Good morning everyone. Our front is taking its sweet time getting here, with one wave of energy transiting well north and west of the NYC Metro Area. While we knew the gears were grinding to a halt, a slightly longer delay changes the dynamic of the forecast; not only for today, but also through Sunday.
EASTERN SATELLITE
First and foremost, we’ll have a sunny start, then clouds and sun as that first wave of energy goes to our north. It’ll be muggy and slightly hotter temp-wise with the lack of precip initially. Look for highs in the low 90’s today as heat advisories and air quality alerts remain posted. There is still a risk of strong to severe storms today, but the action will be more scattered rather than a large-scale organized line. The biggest risk for those who do see some storms, will be strong gusty winds and heavy rain.
REGIONAL RADAR
Overnight tonight, more energy will head into the area, similar to what we’re seeing now in NE PA and upstate NY. This will give us an increased chance of some heavy nocturnal storms late tonight into early tomorrow morning.
This will also be the story for tomorrow as well. Look for small waves of energy to pass by the area, with sun and clouds. A slow moving front, some sunshine, and lack of organized/long lasting precip will help give us another near 90 degree day. Expect the chance of some early morning storms, then another chance of some afternoon storms. Again, not everyone will see action, so don’t cancel your outdoor plans and just keep an eye to the sky and your local weather. These storms may also reach severe limits.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
For Sunday, the onshore flow dominates, but leftover energy may keep clouds and scattered showers in our area. Still no washouts, but keep the umbrella handy for some sprinkles/light showers, highs in the mid to upper 70’s. Th onshore flow continues Monday, but lack of precip and some extra peeks of sun will help get us back to 80 in most areas.
Tuesday we creep back up into the low to mid 80’s, then mid 80’s and a chance for a few storms on Wednesday.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

In the long range, Late week is looking seasonably comfortable, but then heat tries to return for the last weekend of August. It’s still not written in stone, but we could potentially see a few 90 to near 90 hits next weekend.
