NYC LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2018 FIRST LOOK
Good morning everyone to a special edition of Angry Weather. Not only will we cover the current NYC muggy situation we have ongoing here, but we’ll also cover way down the road to give you an initial glance into Labor Day weekend.
As stated yesterday, energy will be slow to clear as that front drags itself along the northeast corridor. Cloudy to mostly cloudy skies will reign today and we could see a few peeks of sun after a slight chance of some light rain this morning. During this process, we could see another round of heavy showers and storms in the afternoon and evening, much like last night. Not everyone will see some action, but for those who do, expect gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy, flooding rain possible. Highs in the NYC area today should make it into a muggy upper 80’s to near 90 if we see some extra sun. So keep your plans but keep an eye on the radar as well.
EASTERN SATELLITE
For tomorrow, some more energy lags behind as we switch to an onshore flow. Clouds will be stubborn to leave and highs will be a cool (but moist), mid to upper 70’s; with a chance of a few showers/sprinkles. On Monday, clouds remain as does the onshore flow, with upper 70’s in most areas as highs.
REGIONAL RADAR
Going into early next week, we start the slow recovery. Low 80’s remain possible for Tuesday, then mid 80’s and humid for Wednesday. Late in the week, we flip-flop between low to mid 80’s Thursday and Friday as very warm air tries to set itself up for a return. As of now, next weekend continues to look very warm to hot. Mid to upper 80’s are possible for Saturday, then upper 80’s to near 90 for Sunday if the ridge does’t collapse.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
For the following week approaching Labor Day weekend, very warm to hot weather wants to continue; with upper 80’s to even low 90 temps possible as of now. Remember, this is all speculation and things could ned up more tame as we get closer. However, IF we do get another shot of heat, it could set us up for a very vigorous cold front approaching just before or during Labor Day Weekend.
If so, expect a possible round of widespread strong storms, then a seasonably to unseasonably cool and dry rest of your Labor Day weekend and/or Labor Day itself. We’ll be keeping a close eye on everything to pinpoint when that cool push is coming, if at all.
