NYC HEAVY RAIN FLOODING ISSUES CONTINUE SEVERAL HOURS

Good morning everyone. We have widespread flooding issues throughout the NYC metropolitan area and Long Island. Very heavy rain with scattered embedded storms continue to develop and push over the same spots as our cold front slowly pushes east. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, but for many, the damage is done.

Expect cloudy skies with varying intensities of rain and a few rumbles of thunder until late morning/early afternoon. Clouds will be stubborn to leave once things begin to quiet down a bit, and we could see a few scattered showers into the nighttime hours. Highs today in the mid 70’s. Flooding remains an issues, so be guided by your local alerts and do not drive into standing water.

Tomorrow, we clear our for a sunny and slightly cooler than average day (but still warm). Look for light northerlies, low humidity, and low 80’s. This will help begin the drying out process.

Sunny and dry weather continues for Thursday, but we are back to near-average with temps in the mid 80’s. We could see a few upper 80’s pop, but the air will still have a dry feel to it.

On Friday, we turn up the juice a little more and start to increase the humidity again. As of now, expect upper 80’s in most spots, but at least we remain precip-free to help those recover.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Dry weather continues into the weekend but we start creeping towards that very warm/hot threshold again. Sunny skies and relatively humid weather will rule on Saturday, with upper 80’s to near 90. Sunday we go a touch hotter, with upper 80’s to low 90’s possible.

To start next week, the heat remains on but the timing of our next front will be crucial as far as whether we get close to that “cheap heatwave” status of not. As of now, Monday is looking hot and muggy with temps near 90, then we’ll see if we get a bonus day or not Tuesday; before we break the heat again with a round of storms either late Tuesday or Wednesday.

Going into August, the heat is definitely not done, but the cold fronts are looking stronger and more definitive. That would translate into a block of upper 80’s to low 90 temps, then a round of heavy storms, followed by a day or two of relatively cool/dry/refreshing air, then a quick modification back to average before we start the process over again.
