NYC HEAVY RAIN THUNDER OVERNIGHT POWER OUTAGES POSSIBLE TOMORROW
Good morning everyone. Clouds and a strong southerly fetch have settled into the NYC area, signaling the approach of another cold front. This will bring the possibility of some strong storms overnight, but the big story might end up being the wind tomorrow when everything begins to depart.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Expect cloudy, breezy, and humid conditions to persist today. As stated, most of the energy was going to go well north and west of us today, but a wave riding along the front will get us in on the action later. Look for cloudy skies with a chance of a heavy shower and rumble of thunder at anytime throughout the day today. Highs will remain where they are now temp-wise, with mid to upper 60’s in most spots.
REGIONAL RADAR
Overnight tonight, gusty showers and storms will head in. If that wave travels just west of our area, we could see some frequent lightning and fairly strong winds some time after midnight. Overall, 1-3″ of rain is possible depending on who sees what. We should clear everything out by noon, but strong pressure gradients between the departing low and incoming high will really ramp things up wind-wise. Look for gusts possibly 50+ mph, which will be able to topple trees due to the saturated soil/leaves acting like sails, and also some power outages. Highs will be early as we fall through the 60’s and possibly into the upper 40’s to low 50’s throughout the afternoon.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Gusty conditions continue overnight tomorrow, but they’ll slowly begin to subside. Expect a sunny day on Sunday, with highs in the low to mid 50’s. Stay tuned for a comprehensive long range discussion on Sunday.
