NYC HOT HEAT EXPECTED HOWEVER CERTAIN ASPECTS OVERDONE
NYC HOT HEAT EXPECTED HOWEVER CERTAIN ASPECTS OVERDONE – Good morning everyone. As we take our steps towards the hot period expected late week in NYC, the picture is becoming more clear how it happens and what it looks like. A lot of models were out there calling for 106 degree temps for an extended period and we thought that was a bit much. Will it be hot? Yes. Will it be Painted Desert hot for 4 days plus? No.
So far, the only wrench thrown into my forecast is Thursday as far as how that’ll play out, but everything else is looking rather solid. Look for a sunny, comfortable day today, with variable light winds switching to the south by afternoon; highs in the mid to upper 70’s. Tomorrow, humidity and clouds increase a bit as our warm front approaches. Look for a sunny start, then sun and clouds, highs in the upper 70’s.
Previously, I said our warm front approaches Thursday, which is spot on. However, it’ll take its sweet time trying to clear the area. This will impact how much precip we get, plus high temps. Expect a humid day, with periods of showers and storms essentially all day; highs in the to 80’s. If we can get a few peeks of sun somehow, mid 80’s.
On Friday the heat is on, with sunny skies and highs near 90 (cooler at the shore). Sun continues to shine for Saturday, with 90-95 degree temps in most areas aside from the immediate shore. Sunday will be the hottest day of this stretch, with a wide range depending on where you live. Look for low to mid 90’s in most areas, but a few spots could see upper 90’s to near 100 if the wind profile is right.
On Monday, we scale things back to near 90 again, but the humidity and mugginess rage on. Look for upper 80’s to low 90’s both Tuesday and Independence Day on Wednesday, then possibly a round of severe weather or strong storms to end the hot block by Thursday. Please take the usual precautions during this period. Drink plenty of water, don’t exert yourself, and try to focus outdoor activities early in the morning.
As we look ahead, things are still warm even as we end the run of 90’s, then they look to try and return for the 2nd week of July.
