NYC Last Hot Day Today Until Possibly 7-10 Days

Good morning everyone. Today is the last day of our above average temperature stretch which has essentially lasted since the last 1/3 of June. Our pattern is shifting temporarily, and will be with us for the next week or maybe even longer. Troughy conditions, northerlies, easterlies, and some cloudy days will be dominant as showers come and go through possibly next weekend and slightly beyond.

SATELLITE

Today we start out with sunny skies, but then action begins to build in the interior Mid-Atlantic and lower Northeast in terms of thunderstorm activity. Some of those may drift our way, but the best chance of seeing storms will be any of our listening area close or slightly into the interior; such as Manhattan and the Bronx.

Any storms that do develop will be on the heavy side, and the biggest threat will be torrential, flooding rain due to their slow movement, frequent lighting, and gusty winds. Highs today will be a humid low 90’s with slightly cooler temps along the shore.

REGIONAL RADAR

Winds go northerly, then easterly late tomorrow as clouds dominate the picture. We’ll have the slight chance of a shower or storm, but the big story will be the temps with highs in the upper 70’s to low 80’s.

East, Northeast, and Southeast winds continue for Friday with maybe a few more peeks of sun compared to tomorrow. That’ll help us “recover” back into the low to mid 80’s. However, shorelines may still struggle in the upper 70’s to near 80. We’ll also keep the slight chance of a shower or storm in the picture.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Your weekend continues to look iffy to me, and I’m going to continue to run with clouds and sun, slight chance of showers forecast for both Saturday and Sunday. We’ll wait and see how dominant that maritime high is, and if it can keep away some of the clouds and scattered showers.

I wouldn’t cancel any outdoor plans, but don’t expect a beach day either. 3-4 days of stiff easterlies make for a rough day at the beach, plus high surf and dangerous rip currents. Highs both Saturday & Sunday in the upper 70’s to low 80’s, with those 70’s experienced mostly in coastal locales.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Monday onward continues to look like Thursday through Sunday, with small systems coming through and high pressure providing a more maritime feel until the hot air tries to return. Best chance for that is actually towards the end of August/early September although we could have a very warm one here and there.

For those who hate the 90’s, enjoy the break.
