NYC Late Evening Cold Rain Mild Saturday Ahead
Good morning everyone and Happy New Year! We’re off to a decent start today sunshine-wise as yesterday’s cold front pushed fully through as advertised. Things really ground to a halt the past couple of days, slowing the process down of getting the rain in and out today, but it works out as far as having a mostly dry day today. In other news, a weak spinoff at the trailing edge of this system down south, will send low-pressure our way late this weekend, giving us more cold rain here, and a little bit of accumulating snow upstate.
SATELLITE
We’ll start off the day with some sunshine, then increasing clouds as the day goes on. That’s in response to our cold front returning as a warm front, and we’ll start to see some cold rain between 5-7pm. It’ll be a cool day overall but seasonal, highs near 40 in most spots. Even though it’s not forecasted, don’t be surprised to hear a few sleet pellets hit the windows this evening mixed in with the rain. However, no icing or accumulation is expected.
The bulk of the rain happens overnight tonight, then we’ll have some lingering rain and clouds tomorrow morning. It’ll be a mild one but nothing extreme. We’ll have some blue patches and sunshine late, an increasing westerly breeze, and highs near 50.
Clouds increase again as low pressure heads up the coast and slips to our south. For the interior sections of the Northeast, there will be enough cold air in place for snow to fall. For us, it’ll be a cold rain. Maybe the most northern areas of NYC, such as the north Bronx, may see some flakes for a little bit; but it’ll be rain for the most part elsewhere. For those who do see all snow, you’ll be looking at a generally light 1-3/2-4″ type snowfall, especially in higher elevations.
We clear out again on Monday, and we should remain seasonably comfortable to start the week with highs in the low to mid 40’s & sunshine.
