NYC Light Snow Possible Late Tomorrow Night
12/22/24 1:04pm EST
Good afternoon everyone. Very cold air, and in some cases frigid air, has taken hold across most of the Northeast and New England. Low temperatures overnight plunged into the single digits for interior parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and New England, while we saw teens along the coast.
We won’t recover much today as temperatures hover in the teens and 20’s across much of the region, while higher elevations may not see their way out of the single digits for highs. A reinforcing shot of cold air is due in late tomorrow through Tuesday morning, and we could see some snow across the Northeast and New England. The majority of the energy goes north of the New York City Metro area, but we could still see some light flakes around.
Meanwhile, our next powerful system is due to come ashore across parts of Washington, Oregon, and California. This one is much stronger than the one we saw a couple of days ago, and we could see some hurricane force winds well offshore, and storm force winds at the Oregon and Washington coast.
We’ll see some typical rough seas, large surf, heavy rain, and mountain snows. However, this one could send some moderate to heavy rain down into the metro areas of San Francisco, Oakland, and possibly even Los Angeles as it passes by. The timeline on this system looks to be tomorrow afternoon through Tuesday.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Look for sunny skies and very cold conditions today. Highs will be in the low 20’s at best, then we sink back into the low to mid teens overnight. Areas of the Pine Barrens out on Long Island could see some upper single digits depending on the wind profile overnight.
WEATHER RADAR
We start off with some sunshine tomorrow and cold conditions in the 25-30 range. Clouds will increase late with the slight chance of some light snow overnight. Any light snow leftover (if there’s any at all), will come to an end late morning on Tuesday, then sunshine returns. Highs will be near 40, then getting colder before sunset.
Wednesday and Thursday look seasonably cold, with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the mid to upper 30’s. Temperatures modify a bit on Friday, with sunshine and highs in the low 40’s.
