NYC Biting Cold Nights Tomorrow & Sunday
Good morning everyone. The Northeast & New England are our main focus of the forecast today as a complex system passes through, then arctic air rushes in behind it. We have a complicated time ahead today through tomorrow early afternoon as a clipper-type system screeches to a halt, then tries to redevelop offshore.
Development will happen “too late” as far as throwing back heavy snows across a large area of the Northeast and New England. However, we could still see some trouble spots overnight tonight and tomorrow, but first we start out with some afternoon mixed precipitation changing to a cold rain along the coast, with some light snow possible inland.
As our system tries to redevelop, we could see some heavier snows across parts of southeast New England. Cape Cod has the best chance to get in on this brief period of moderate to heavy snow, but we could see those bands kick back into other parts of southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We’ll also watch the Forks of Long Island just in case some of that banding is able to back up a little further.
Once everything clears out tomorrow, we’re left with blustery conditions and temps dropping through the 20’s and 30’s. Overnight lows will be teens to single digits, with below zero temperatures possible overnight Sunday for interior parts of Pennsylvania, New York, and upper New England.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Clouds have already rolled in today and we are stuck in the mid to upper 30’s. It may seem cold enough for snow, but the cold layer is very shallow for now. Look for any scattered mixed precipitation to change to rain, then back to a mix, then over to snow as colder air takes over the mid and upper layers.
WEATHER RADAR
We’ll have some scattered light snow tomorrow morning, then partial clearing late. It’ll be blustery and cold with highs in the low to mid 30’s dropping as the day wears on. Lows overnight tomorrow will be in the mid to upper teens.
Sunday we are stuck in the mid to upper 20’s and useless sunshine; then lows overnight dip into the low to mid teens. Some single digits are possible out in the Pine Barrens.
Your workweek starts off cold on Monday, with 25-30 degree temps and some sunshine.
