NYC LIGHT SNOW POSSIBLE SATURDAY
NYC LIGHT SNOW POSSIBLE SATURDAY
NYC LIGHT SNOW POSSIBLE SATURDAY – Good morning! After record breaking temps yesterday and highs near 65, today we begin the cool down process with the passage of a cold front. Temps are already beginning to drop overnight, from the mid 50’s to the low 40’s by sunrise. Winds will increase for a blustery day and highs will only creep up a few degrees and into the mid 40’s and lows dipping into the mid 20’s by sunrise on Saturday.
Yesterday’s front that pumped in some warm air ahead of it, stalled out as it passed us and got hung up in the Mississippi Valley. A wave will move along this front, bringing us the possibility of some light snow and flurries midday Saturday into early Saturday night. Most of the energy will go to the south of us, so any snow that falls will be of the light and scattered variety, with little accumulation possible. At this point, I’d say the max accumulation will be a dusting to a 1/2″ if we see anything at all out of this. It’s quite possible we could see the snow pass just to the south of Sandy Hook, NJ and that will be that.
After we get past Saturday, cool air will remain for another 2 days on Sunday and Monday, sunny with highs near 40 each day. On Tuesday, we find ourselves once again on the “warm” side of a weather system, with a chance of rain Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and highs ranging from the upper 40’s to low 50’s. I’ll discuss this next system, plus the prospect of more unseasonably mild air, coming up on the long range outlook on Sunday.
Satellite shows our cold front passing through the area and it getting hung up out in the Mississippi Valley. However, most of the energy will slip to the south of us.
Radar shows a few light showers in the area as a cold front passes through the NYC area. Things will be dry and blustery today after sunrise.
