NYC Long Range Heat Questions

Good morning everyone. The heat has returned and it will be noticeably different from yesterday’s gloom, fog, and cool weather. We’ll be in the heat of different variations through Monday next week, then we await to see if the heat snaps in a big way for a few days.

SATELLITE

Sunshine pays a visit today through Thursday, but weak area of energy representing a slight change in humidity and wind flow, will touch off a few scattered popcorn storms this afternoon. The only things we can do is watch the sky and radar, but anyone who does see one of these cells, could see locally severe conditions. The largest threat will be pea to nickel-sized hail and possibly an isolated tornado. Highs today will be a humid near 90/low 90 range.

Humidity drops slightly tomorrow and we will hang out in the upper 80’s to near 90 under full sunshine.

WEATHER RADAR

Thursday will be the hottest day of the bunch with upper 90’s to near 100 temps. Best chance to see 100 degrees or slightly above will be just west of Manhattan in NJ, downtown Brooklyn, interior Queens, and maybe a spot or two north of the LIE in Nassau County.

Friday remains hot, but we drop into the low 90’s under increasing clouds and higher humidity. We’ll also see the best chance of thunderstorms we’ve see in quite some time. We’ll have to see if any lines develop, but at minimum, there will be numerous scattered showers and storms that’ll cover a large amount of real estate in the Northeast. Hopefully some of the areas that really need some rain, will get in on the action.

We’ll keep the chance of storms in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, albeit a lower chance, and temps will hang out in the upper 80’s under high humidity.

The next chance of numerous storms will be next Monday with low 90’s once again. We’ll be keeping an eye to see if our front sinks to our south and high pressure sets up in Maine/Nova Scotia. If so, this may keep clouds and rain in the forecast under an easterly flow. Lots of “IFs” here, but IF we get this setup, we could see 60’s and 70’s as highs Tuesday and Wednesday. IF not, then we hang out in the 80’s with soupy air & clouds.
