NYC Different Levels of Heat This Week

Good morning everyone. We’re socked in with the clouds, fog, and drizzle today as we write this one off as a transition day before the heat begins again. We will have different levels of hot this week, but it doesn’t arise to heatwave status unless you’re an alarmist or like to ignore that lynx’s don’t have tails nor look like skinny African cats; but I digress…..

Today we sit on that boundary where maritime air is fighting with the hot air to our west, but the hot air wins out after today. Expect a generally cool, cloudy, drizzly, and foggy day today, with highs 75-80. For those getting their hopes up about 80, you won’t see it unless the sun comes out for a brief moment. Even now, we are struggling in the upper 60’s to near 70. Overnight, our high today and low won’t change much as the warm airmass settles in.

Look for partly sunny skies tomorrow, the slight chance of a PM storm, humid conditions, and highs in the low 90’s (cooler at the shore).

WEATHER RADAR

That storm chance will represent a slight shift in the airflow and a little less humidity for Wednesday. We will still be very warm, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 80’s to near 90.

Thursday will be the hottest day of this stretch, with near 100 degree temps away from south-facing shores and the Forks. Best chance to crack 100 will be just west of NYC in the Newark area, plus maybe a few spots in interior Brooklyn, Queens, and Nassau.

A front nears us on Friday and we will tamp down the temps a bit. It’ll still be hot and humid with upper 80’s to low 90’s, but we could see some numerous showers and storms by early to late afternoon.

We’ll keep the chance of a shower or storm in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, and temps look like a humid upper 80’s to near 90. Again, this will be called a heatwave by some, but it doesn’t meet the old parameters or even the new ones, no matter how hard they try.

Either way, when we do have very warm/hot conditions, stay hydrated, be smart, and always know –

  1. Sharks live in the ocean
  2. Lynx’s have little bob tails, not long house cat-like tails.
