NYC Long Range August Outlook

Good morning everyone. Some thunderstorms moved through the area with heavy rain and localized severe weather conditions, and now we go quiet & seasonably warm….for 1 day. Heat and humidity return tomorrow, and it wants to stay till Friday. However, the long range is leaning toward the very warm to hot end of the spectrum, with very little relief from summer or our drought.

SATELLITE

Clouds and sun are on the menu today, with lower humidity and seasonably average temps. We’ll be in the mid 80’s, but it won’t last as heat and humidity push back tomorrow.

Clouds and sun remain tomorrow with the very slight chance for an afternoon thunderstorm. We’ll be more humid tomorrow, with highs in the upper 80’s to near 90. Cooler along south facing shores.

WEATHER RADAR

While some spots MAY hit 90 tomorrow, most spots will hit 90 or slightly above on Thursday (aside from south facing shores). It’ll be a humid one again, with another chance for an afternoon storm.

Friday will be our best chance to see some more organized showers and storms, but it won’t do much to relieve the drought conditions. Expect highs in the upper 80’s to near 90, and we’ll be watching that radar to see if anything severe pops up.

Your weekend is looking very warm but less humid. Expect sunshine with upper 80’s to near 90 for both days on Saturday and Sunday.

In the long range, we are leaning very warm to hot. Come late in the 1st week of August, another ridge is going to try and build from the Midwest into the Northeast. If this comes to fruition, we have the potential for another heatwave or at least near-heatwave conditions some time between the 4th and the 13th. As far as rain is concerned, it’s simply not looking good. Our cold fronts have been lacking any punch in terms of major differences between air masses, and we haven’t see indicators for any cool summer coastal systems that give us showers & an easterly fetch.
