NYC METRO AREA FLASH FLOOD WATCHES POSTED COLD BLAST AHEAD

NYC METRO AREA FLASH FLOOD WATCHES POSTED COLD BLAST AHEAD

Good morning everyone. Clouds and scattered sprinkles have moved in real quick after a brief sunny start this morning in the NYC area. Today and tonight will be the first of two systems that’ll help keep cold air locked in our area for a little while.

EASTERN SATELLITE

Flash flood watches have been posted as it looks as if that wave I’ve been talking about is sure to form in the vicinity of our area. I still think we will be on the cusp of the heaviest of rain, but areas east and north are sure to get slammed. Either way, we have cloudy skies, sprinkles, and raw conditions developing as that east wind gets going. We only go for low 50’s today, but it’ll feel much cooler, especially when the steadier rain arrives early afternoon.

REGIONAL RADAR

Winds get a little more stiff tonight, and the rain will become heavier at times. Expect ponding and flooding of notorious areas with poor drainage. Things should start to quiet down between 11pm and 1am tonight, allowing that cold rush of air to arrive by tomorrow. Look for 2-3″ of rain total in most spots, possibly higher as you go out east on Long Island and into southeast Connecticut.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Wind and relatively cold temps will be the big story for tomorrow. High pressure moves in as our strong system leaves, creating tight pressure gradient between the two; which equals a windy day. Look for increasing sunshine and strong westerlies 15-20mph with gusts to 35+ possible; highs in the low to mid 40’s. Sunshine and low to mid 40’s continue for Sunday, but winds should subside, making things slightly more comfortable but way below normal.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

To start the week, temps modify briefly as our stronger of the two systems starts to gather up. Expect increasing clouds and highs 45-50 on Monday. As of now, the timing of our next system looks as if rain will start between 11pm and 1am Monday night, then rain and wind increasing in intensity by sunrise Tuesday.

This one has the potential for larger rain totals if everything works out. As far as winds, this one looks like an inland-runner or near-coastal storm, so while winds will be gusty and the rain will be windswept, I don’t think we’re looking at Nor’Easter level winds unless you’re out on the Cape, Block Island, or Nantucket.

Tuesday’s system will also have the potential to pull 40 degree temps back in the area for mid to late week next week until we wait and watch to see what the following systems do. So basically, we are in a colder than normal pattern setting up for mid-November, then we could modify a bit as time goes on (depending on system path), but we are still looking at a typical November parade of systems.
