NYC Mild Breezy Today Eyes On Rain/Snow Line Midweek Nor’easter

Good morning everyone. Questions remain for Wed/Thur’s system and we’ll be watching its final track in the next couple of days. We know someone is going to get hammered with 1-2ft of snow possible, but we have to wait and see where that area sets up. Meanwhile, we have a breezy and mild day today in the NYC area.

Expect clouds and sun today, breezy conditions (especially along immediate south facing shores), and highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s – cooler at the shore. We’ll dip into the 30’s overnight, and that’ll set us up for system #1 tomorrow.

Low pressure will scoot to our south tomorrow, but come closer moisture-wise compared to what was forecasted several days ago. With colder air in place, we could see a mix of rain and wet snow, then some cold rain, and back to a mix before everything departs. Parts of NW NJ could see a 1-3/2-4″ type snowfall out of this, especially higher elevations, but no accumulation is expected in the NYC/LI area. highs in the upper 30’s tomorrow.

For Tuesday, we are sunny & cold with highs in the upper 30’s to near 40. We’ll dip into the 20’s at night, and that puts enough cold air in the area for Wednesday’s system if the track is “right”.

We continue to cloud up Wednesday morning, then precip should start some time between early afternoon and early evening. I’m still not ready to make the call on this for the NYC/LI area, but it’s looking good for interior parts of the Northeast in terms of a significant snowfall. Depending on where the heaviest precip sets up, someone is going to see a 1-2ft snowfall.

That area could still be us in the NYC Metro area, however, the rain/snow line may set up very close. That could hamper total accumulation if we start out as light snow, go to a mix or even rain, then back to snow. The highest “risk” for this happening right now is coastal NJ, south shores of NYC/Long Island, and the Forks.

I’ve maintained throughout this week that tomorrow morning’s model run is going to give us the best hint as to how this is going to unfold. Even after that, we’ll still have to see where the heaviest snow and “banding” sets up in order to see who gets the big hit.
