NYC Mild Conditions Return Tomorrow
10/02/24 9:18am
Good morning everyone. Clouds have reentered the picture in the Northeast as our cold front sweeps through the area. This is the same front that brought some gusty showers & thunderstorms to parts of the Great Lakes region yesterday, but don’t expect any cold air behind it. After a mostly cloudy day today with some spotty gusty showers in parts of Pennsylvania and central/western New York, we’ll have sunshine and 70’s returning.
Meanwhile, a new cold front is entering the picture from Canada into upper areas of Minnesota as well as the U.P. of Michigan. This is bringing some scattered rain and gusty winds, but we don’t expect any severe weather out of this, as most of the energy skips by to the north, and contrast in air masses are negligible.
Our main focus remains down in Florida and eventually the other Gulf Coast states. For today, we’ll have another round of scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms for central and south Florida. Some of these storms could be locally strong to severe, with strong winds, hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of a few waterspouts across near-shore areas where these storms do pop up.
We’re also watching tropical energy lift northward into the Gulf of Mexico that’ll eventually drift into parts of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and possibly into the Florida Panhandle. We’ll be watching for this to begin to take place tomorrow and throughout the rest of the week. Look for heavy tropical-like showers and thunderstorms, and some of that action may reach severe limits.
At minimum, look for scattered clusters of heavy showers and thunderstorms capable of torrential rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and the risk for some waterspouts. If this tropical energy becomes better organized, we’ll see more numerous heavy showers and thunderstorms, which will mean an increased risk of rain-flooding and severe weather.
