NYC Mild Conditions Move in Through Monday
10/03/24 10:53am ET
Good morning everyone. We have a cloudy start in spotty areas across the Northeast, but overall sunny & mild conditions are on the move. It’ll also be quiet and mostly dry as well, with no major precipitation expected over the course of the next 7 days. Highs in the 70’s dominate the picture until after our frontal passage on Monday night; then we drop into the 50’s and 60’s across the Northeast & New England.
Elsewhere, we have a narrow line of light to moderate rain heading through the Upper Midwest, with no severe weather expected. In areas such as South Dakota, southeast North Dakota, and central Minnesota, gusty showers will push through, then cooler and breezy weather prevails. These fronts quickly moving through the Upper Midwest, are the gears of fall starting to turn a little quicker.
High pressure behind that front will help protect most of the East Coast and South from tropical activity. However, we have a few trouble spots ahead; mainly the Gulf Coast. For today, look for some of that tropical energy to bloom and bubble up from the Gulf of Mexico, then across parts of Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and eventually into south Texas.
Heavy tropical-like showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact parts of central and south Florida, as well as the Louisiana coast. Thunderstorms will remain on the scattered side in small clusters, but they could prove problematic in the form of locally damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail, torrential rain, and the risk of a few waterspouts.
The majority of the action looks to be across Florida and Louisiana today, but we could see a few heavy thunderstorms across parts of Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas, especially tomorrow as our tropical energy drifts closer to the region. Look for more numerous heavy showers & thunderstorms to impact the Florida peninsula this weekend and into next week.
