Quiet NYC Continues

10/04/24 10:30am ET

Good morning everyone. The Northeast remains quiet for the most part, with a few weak disturbances moving through that’ll bring a few clouds and drizzle in between larger periods of sunshine and mild conditions. Tuesday begins the bigger cool down, and we could see a round of strong to severe thunderstorms across parts of western New York some time on Sunday with that front.

That front will first head into the Pacific Northwest across Washington and Oregon as our first potent fall storm of the season. Most of the energy goes up into Canada, but we could still see some heavy rain, strong winds, and high elevation snows. It’s a fast moving system, and already knocking on the Upper Midwest door by tomorrow afternoon.

Areas such as Wisconsin, Minnesota, and parts of Michigan, could see a round of severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening due to the strong contrast in air masses. Look for the risk of damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk for a few tornadoes.

We also continue to watch the Gulf Coast region for heavy tropical showers and thunderstorms that will once again drift into the Louisiana area, as well as impact Florida and south Texas today. Here too, we have the risk of embedded heavier thunderstorms; with locally strong winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and some waterspouts possible. Look for scattered clusters of thunderstorms today to become more numerous across Florida over the next couple of days.
