NYC Near 80 Degree Temps Possible Again Wednesday

11/03/24 8:57am ET

Good morning everyone. The Northeast continues to be a quiet sanctuary as cool high pressure is in control over the next couple of days. However, as high pressure drifts away, that return flow will once again push very mild to warm air into the area. 50’s and 60’s today will be replaced with some 70’s by Tuesday, then some near 80’s temps possible on Wednesday before our next cold front cools us off.

Our focus remains in the Midwest due to our severe weather risk and rain flooding potential over the next couple of days. A storm system sending waves of low pressure into the lower plains, is creating enough temperature contrast and lift to help form some very nasty thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Heavy showers & thunderstorms continue this morning in Northeast Texas, central and eastern Oklahoma, northwest Arkansas, a large swath of Missouri, and parts of Iowa. Look for locally heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hall possible throughout this area into the late morning and early afternoon hours.

As daytime heating works the atmosphere, we could see some of these storms become locally severe. We will also see a new severe weather risk tomorrow as a new wave of low pressure goes over the same area; plus we’ll add Kansas into the mix. Look for the risk of damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of a few tornadoes.

We’re also watching the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical wave in the lower Caribbean is expected to lift north into the region. As of now, the risk is there for tropical storm development, and this may become a hazard for the Florida Keys, west coast of Florida, and the Alabama/Mississippi coast mid to late week this week.
