Good morning everyone. We have a windy and sunny one unfolding today as temps will drop through the day here in the New York City area. Meanwhile, New Year’s Eve is looking wet and New Year’s Day is looking miles away from the teens we had this time last year.

Clouds are quickly exiting the area and the wind has started to increase. This will help dry is off, but 50’s will be short-lived and we’ll be in the upper 30’s to low 40’s by evening as temps drop throughout the day.

Clouds increase quickly on Monday with our next system moving in. We’ll have highs in the mid to upper 40’s, but once the rain starts, it’ll feel miserable and damp. Rain should creep in between 1-4pm on Monday and will be with us all the way near or just after the ball drop, so don’t expect any New Year’s miracles.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
On New Year’s Day, things should be similar to today if the timing works out. Expect morning clouds, PM sun, and temps starting off in the 50’s, then dropping as we get near sunset.
Colder air moves back in for Wednesday, and we should be around average with highs in the 35-40 range. Thursday/Friday’s system might slip to the south and north of us in 2 pieces, keeping things dry and cool in the area. If this happens, it’ll pave the way for a dry weekend with seasonably cold temps but windy.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
In the long range, I’m having problems seeing the extreme cold air that other outlets hyped-up last week. Yes, very cold air will be pooling up in Canada, but we lack the mechanics as of now to bring it down for more than a day or so. Meanwhile, our system paths continue to be very hostile towards snow, but I do not see a snowless January unfolding.
