LATE WEEK NYC SYSTEM LOOKING LARGER COLDER
Good morning everyone. Our rainy New Year’s Eve in the New York City area is looking on schedule and will definitely dampen the festivities for those looking to be outside. Plus, signs are gathering we could see something more significant coming our way for late week as two areas of energy may merge.
EASTERN SATELLITE
We’ll start off cloudy today with the chance of a sprinkle or flurry, then we’ll have sun and clouds; highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s.
REGIONAL RADAR
For New Year’s Eve day, we cloud up quickly tomorrow and rain moves in between mid to late afternoon. We’ll hit the mid 40’s tomorrow but actually rise as the night goes on.
Overnight, we’ll have rain, heavy at times, and becoming windy. We should be around 50 by midnight, but it’ll be wet, rainy, windy, and raw. We should squeeze out an inch from this system, capping off an extremely rainy 2018.
Clouds are stubborn New Year’s Day, but partial clearing will ensue as the day goes on. 50’s will drop into the 40’s by evening and we turn on the wind machine to usher in cooler air.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Wednesday is looking dry and seasonable, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s; then we begin to cloud up overnight Wednesday depending on the timing of our next system.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Yesterday, I discussed the prospect of two pieces of energy going south and north of us. We always have to watch these closely this time of year to see if things organize better and things may be looking that way.
We still have to get past tomorrow’s system to see what everything looks like behind it, but several models are in agreement that we may have something much bigger on our hands, especially for interior parts of the Northeast.
As of this moment, it’s way too early to be making any calls, but we’ll be watching very closely on the timing and path of this possible system, as well as how much it gets organized. We certainly have enough cold air on tap to create a wintry situation here in the NYC area IF the path becomes snow-friendly, but we have to see.
Stay tuned.
