NYC New Year’s Eve Not Looking As Bad
Good morning everyone. We have some forecast tweaks here as we watch our next system develop and trek across the Country. Not only is New Year’s Eve looking better in some aspects, we’re also looking at lighter precip amounts and different timing. There are some caveats through, which I’ll explain below.
SATELLITE
Today we’re looking chilly, breezy, dry, and sunny. We’ll have highs in the 35-40 range, but it’ll feel much colder with that wind chill.
Expect a repeat tomorrow, but with less wind, giving the area a more comfortable feel. Highs 35-40 again.
We’ll begin to cloud up Wednesday night, and that’s in conjunction with a cold front that’ll pass through on Thursday. That cold front is connect to a bigger and more vigorous system that’ll come out of SW Texas, but it’s going to lose some steam as it stretches out.
Expect some showers Wednesday night into Thursday, but that cold front passes by long before New Year’s Eve. It’ll pass fully though instead of stalling and/or pushing through again as a warm front. This means a shut-off in precip before New Years Eve, most likely in the afternoon, but it’ll be colder at night.
We’ll have highs near 50 on Thursday, but instead of temps holding steady, we’ll dip into the upper 20’s to low 30’s.
That colder air heading in will set us up for a possible period of rain mixed with sleet Friday morning as that system eventually does come back as a warm front. However, low pressure remains well off to our west as it stretches out and weakens. Instead of the bulk of the precip being Friday, the heaviest may fall overnight Friday. Highs Friday will be in the mid 40’s.
We’ll also tone down those rainfall totals. It looked as if we were looking at 2-4″ total rain between Thursday and Friday, but the rain will be more scattered in nature till Friday night. Winds also won’t be an issue this time around, but we knew that. Friday night will be breezy and rainy, but that’s the extent of it.
Rain ends early Saturday, and cool air lags behind the cold front. Expect a sunny, breezy, and mild Saturday with highs in the upper 40’s to low 50’s. Sunday looks sunny and dry with highs 40-45.
