NYC NOCTURNAL HEAVY STORMS POSSIBLE TONIGHT – Good morning everyone! We have a very warm and humid one ahead in New York City today, then we could see some old school, nighttime storms overnight. Uncomfortable air sticks around until Tuesday, then we dial it back a notch on Wednesday even though it’ll still be very warm.

Look for mostly sunny skies today, more humid, with highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s. Clouds increase tonight as a piece of energy rides over the ridge and heads down our way from the NNW. Look for it to spark a cluster of loud nocturnal storms, which will be capable of gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy rain, and localized flooding. We’ll have to wait and see where it pops and how big the cluster gets, but we have a decent shot at seeing some action. Marine layers and ocean air will not matter with this one, it’ll make it all the way to the coast if it pops up and heads in the “right” direction.

Any leftover storms will depart by early to mid morning tomorrow, leaving us with sun and clouds, very humid air, and highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s once again. We’ll have the slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening/overnight; then we rinse and repeat again for Monday with highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s, slight chance of storms, and very muggy.

Showers and storms are likely on Tuesday as a cold front approaches. This will be our best chance for some widespread rain which we need badly. Muggy conditions continue with highs in the mid to upper 80’s depending on how much sun we get.

After that, humidity subsides for a 3 day stretch before we turn up the juice again for next weekend. Expect upper 80’s for Wednesday, then mid 80’s Thursday and Friday. In the long range, heat and humidity want to return for another 4-7 day stretch starting next Saturday. As we enter the “dog days” of summer, we are in typical NYC summer-mode compared to the previous few seasons.
