NYC NOREASTER LIKELY SNOW MAPS GENERATED
NYC NOREASTER LIKELY SNOW MAPS GENERATED – Good morning everyone. Model watching is over now in my opinion and now we wait to see what our Nor’easter has in store for us. Eyes will turn to the satellite and radar to see the structure and final path of this system, as well as it’s nuances.
Like a fingerprint, each system like this is different and will leave its own mark. Dry slots, western edges of precip, and areas of mixing, will all unfold the way it wants to now, and we’ll just have to wait and see the outcome.
Overnight, the expected system continued a slight westward trend. What this means for the area is a slight westward trend as to who sees the heaviest snow for the NYC metro area.
For timing, look for snow to start around or just after midnight tonight. We should peak late morning and early afternoon, then taper off to light snow/flurries by late afternoon/evening. Look for winds to gust 40-50mph, possibly higher gusts at the immediate shore and east end of Long Island.
Expected snowfall
As stated for the past few days, the tolerances between 2-4/3-6/4-8” are going to be very titght. This seems to be the most likely scenario in my mind given the speed, strength, and expected track of this Nor’easter.
Also, a reminder that Blizzard Warnings could be issued, especially in central to eastern Long Island. Mixing or even some rain may occur in extreme eastern Suffolk, but if the low is able to stay just enough off the coast, or if warm air isn’t wrapped in as much into the NW part of the system, these areas could see 6-12+”.
Either way, speed saves us and we’re getting what our Nor’easter is capable of; so don’t expect any surprise, widespread 20-30” amounts. It’s simply moving too fast for a dump like that. The only lollipop outcomes, could be isolated spots that see Thundersnow, but you cannot forecast who will experience it.
We’ll continue to update when possible, but at this point we wait, and we watch. Dangerously cold air returns tomorrow night, and we don’t look to warm up till Monday with some system related warmth.
Stay tuned!
